The engine must be run with a low SAP oil because of the nature of the particulate filter and exhaust gas recirculation valve.

Even short periods of running with incorrect oil can cause sludge to rapidly accumulate and block, in particular, turbo oil feed pipes which will then lead rapidly to turbo failure. As a result of this, manufacturers have issued detailed guidance on changing the oil of the DV6.(잘못 선택된 오일을 사용하여 주행을 하면 슬러지가 급격하게 축적이 후 고착이 되어터보가 고장)

Peugeots with the DPF are recommended to have a 5W30 fully synthetic suitable for DPF (low ash content and the like). Mobil 1 ESP 5W30, or Total INEO ECS 5W30

Due to burned seals under injectors (usually 3rd) carbon buildup around injector goes down to the engine and mix up with oil which blocks oil pickup strainer (located in the carter). This results a lack of lubrication for engine parts, and that causes immediate failure of turbocharger. Sufficient oil supply is crucial to ensure the proper work of turbine ( working speed: 150,000-200,000 rpm.)

Before mounting new or rebuild turbocharger following is necessary:

1.) Dismount injectors, remove carbon around it and change the seals.

2.) Remove the vacuum pump and check for debris / carbon deposits and clean or replace if necessary.

3.) Remove the Rocker Cover / Cam Box and clean all carbon and sludge deposits from the cover breather and associated valve gear.

4.) Remove carter, clean oil pick up strainer or replace it with new one. ( if necessary )

5.) Make sure that carter is clean of carbon buildups or any foreign objects.

6.) Clean the exhaust Gas Re-circulation Valve, induction manifold and all associated pipe work and ensure that the E.G.R. valve is functioning correctly.

Oil feed pipe banjo bolt originally goes with filter inside (see picture C.) which blocks sufficient oil supply for turbocharger.

7.) Remove the filter and wash oil feed pipe or if it is necessary, replace it with new.

8.) Change oil and oil filter as per specifications given by manufacturer of the engine.

9.) Check oil flow

9.1 Fit turbo, leave oil return pipe disconnected

9.2 Attach an extended oil return pipe and feed into a container

9.3 Start engine, idle for 60 seconds and switch off engine

9.4 Oil pressure: Cold engine - 4 bar

Hot engine (~ 80 degrees) - 2 bar

Hot engine (~2000 rev) - 4 bar

9.5 Repeat test to confirm flow is correct

9.6 Change oil and filter after 50km.

Peugeot 307 and 407 1.6 HDI. The Peugeot 308, 407 and 307 1.6 HDI suffer from turbo failure quite often,

this is caused by oil degradation occurring due to the high temperatures the engine runs at and other systems such as dpf (diesel Particulate Filter).

Dispersant additives in todays engine oils can only last for so long as excessive soot levels in the oil can quickly overwhelm them and form what is commonly known as sludge, once this happens then the turbo on the Peugeot 308, 407 and 307 1.6 HDI will fail. Turbo failure is very common on the Peugeot 308, 407 and 307 1.6 HDI in fact.

1) Remove oil sump from bottom of engine, wash it out and thoroughly dry it,

2) replace the main oil pick up pipe which bolts onto the bottom of the oil pump, there is a wire mesh type filter inside the pick up pipe which can get blocked up very easily, refit the sump.

3) Fit new oil feed pipes and oil return pipes going to the turbo as they are probably blocked up with gunge,

4) remove all breather pipes and clean them out,

5) replace all crankcase breather filters, they are normally on top of the rocker cover or on the air box.

6) Remove and clean out the oil filter housing, refit it and fit a new oil filter, fit the reconditioned turbo and fill the engine with oil.
